Events calendar in Alicante is busy, it has music festivals and special events that are held regularly, especially in the busy tourist season. The most significant is
the Alicante Amateur Theatre Festival. It takes place in September in the Principal Theatre. The festival was founded in 1988 and has a vast range of performances by amateur theatre groups. The performances can be successful or not, but each year there are certainly a number of interesting and excellent productions.
Every December Alicante observes a colourful procession through the town held in memory of the battles between the Moors and Christians in years gone by.
The locals wear costumes and re-enact the battles.
The most famous festival in Alicante is Junes Hogueras de San Juan, to celebrate St Johns night. There is a huge and impressive fireworks display at the castle at midnight, and there are bonfires all around town.
One of the most interesting festivals in Alicante is the Marionette Theatre Festival. It takes place in the Town Hall every November and December, being a great entertainment for children and adults alike.
